(57) Ikuta (Ch sen
y sh -ki,
p. 154) obviously assumes a typographical error (n = u) here and identifiespontchaa
(poutchaa?) with poetsia (87),
but then God and idol would be the same.... Ponjon (satyadevata),
'the most honoured of all Buddhas', 'the chief object of worship in a
group'*, seems more probable here. Phonetically
pons /ponsa
(The original Master or Teacher, i.e. Sakyamuni) seems closer to pontchaa,
but this term was (and is) hardly used in Korea.
*Cf.
supra, n. 62.
